She remembers that when she was small, her late mother used to hum izlan, those typical Berber poems, to her. Growing up, she would listen to the radio and television and discovered other styles of singing. She practically fell in love with Western music. With her knowledge of English and French helping, she could imitate precisely any singer she heard. Her friends and teachers at school and later on, at university, were aware of her immense talent and always encouraged her. She then decided to sing exclusively in tamazight, her mother tongue, as she began to be influenced by the ideas of the Amazigh movement. She formed a very talented duo with Khalid Izri, a Rif singer. They won the Radio France International Media Prize in 1991. She has made several solo tours in Morocco and in Europe. She has brought out two albums : Maymi (1991) and Uggigh am ul inu (2006). Saida Titrit lives in Morocco at present. (LO/WO) Biography by Lahsen Oulhadj >>> (in French) |
