Aza est le nom d’un groupe musical créé à Santa Cruz (Californie). Il est formé de deux chanteurs Fattah Abboo et Mohamed Aoualou, originaires du Maroc, et de musiciens américains. Par cette association, Aza crée un style unique fait de mélodies enlevantes et issu de la rencontre d’instruments traditionnels et modernes.

Leur premier album, Marikan (Amérique) (2003), est un voyage musical, teinté d’influences occidentales modernes, à travers la culture amazighe.

Leur deuxième album Tamghra Wushen (Le mariage du chacal) (2007) met à l’honneur des instruments de toutes les latitudes. Alors que les tambours répondent à la tabla, les sons mystérieux de l’oud et du ribab se mélangent aux guitares acoustiques et électriques.

Aza is a musical band that was founded in Santa Cruz (California) by two members: Fattah Abbou and Mohamed Aoualou. Both are from Morocco and currently live in Santa Cruz.

Their debut album, Marikan (America) (2003) is a stirring journey through the music of the Amazigh (Berber) culture, infused with a modern western influence. This six-piece ensemble creates a unique and powerful sound filled with gripping melodies, complex harmonies, and traditional African instruments.

Their second album Tamghra Wushen (The Wedding of the Jackal) (2007) embraces a modern mix of instruments from all parts of the world. As drum sets dance with tabla grooves, and the mysterious sounds of oud and ribab mix with acoustic and electric guitars, the vocals usher a haunting and passionate journey through the heart of Amazigh culture.
